Autism Parent Coaching
An autism diagnosis can be challenging to navigate, but you do not have to do it alone! I have walked through the autism diagnosis process with many families, including answering questions on various topics, consulting on different therapies, and establishing specific plans for each child. I have noticed the medical system can be frustrating and only offers ones route, despite the need for individualized care. Online coaching can help guide you through the confusing landscape of an autism diagnosis. Some examples of topics that can be discussed in coaching:
What should I expect during an autism evaluation?
What does autism meal for my child, and what are my next steps?
Gestalt Language Processing
Persistent desire for autonomy (PDA) and strategies
Developing strategies for specific behaviors
Assistance with sibling relationships
Should I hire an ABA therapist?
What does it look like to honor neurodiversity?
Guidance on the transition to kindergarten
Guidance on the Individualized Education Plan process and parents’ rights in the education system
Is AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) recommended for my child?
How can I get AAC for my child?
How can I best understand, love and support my child?
How do I talk with my child about his/her autism diagnosis?
Social skills and relationships in autism
*Note: Jodi is a speech-language pathologist and will provide autism parent coaching through that lens. She has worked with many children on the autism spectrum disorder in private clinics, preschools, elementary schools, and within her private practice. She has collaborated with many professionals who treat autism throughout her career. If something is outside of her scope, she will refer you accordingly. There is not a "one size fits all" approach to autism and other professionals may need to be involved. Coaching is a collaborative effort between Jodi and the parents.
